Amarnath Dham

Amarnath Dham is a Shiv Dham in which Lord Shiva is supposed to be seated in the Amarnath cave. This snow Shivling, which was formed from snowy droplets in this holy cave, is also considered a supernatural marvel from a religious and historical standpoint. It is reported that a pair of pigeons has lived in this cave for years, so let’s learn more about them.

Story of Amarnath Pigeons

Legend has it that at the Amarnath Cave, Hindu God Shiva was  revealing the knowledge of creation and immortality to his wife Goddess Parvati. In the cave, a pair of pigeons were mating when they overheard the teachings. When the storey concluded and Lord Shiva’s attention was drawn to Mother Parvati, he discovered Parvati sleeping, and his gaze was drawn to those two birds. When God Shiva saw this, he became enraged, it is then that both the pigeons begged for mercy.

Thereafter God Shiva bestowed a boon on both those birds, stating that they would always remain in the same area as a symbol of God Shiva and Parvati and which the reason that the two birds are reported to be always present in the cave till today.

There is a popular belief that sighting the pair of White Pigeons at the shrine is considered highly auspicious.
