Publish date: 2024-07-07

Daniel Ricciardo has sustained a highly mediocre start to the 2024 season. The Aussie has been heavily outscored by his Japanese counterpart, Yuki Tsunoda. However, Ricciardo has performed a bit better in some of the races so far. One such race was the recent Canadian GP where the Australian finished in P8 after receiving a penalty for a false start.

Daniel Ricciardo‘s promising performances in the 2024 season will further enable him to secure a seat in the pinnacle of motorsport for next year. Hence, Ricciardo mentioned that he always looked at the on-track stuff regarding braking and performance. Additionally, after the Monaco GP, the 34-year-old looked at some things potentially harming his performance during races.

I always look at the on-track stuff - can I brake later here, or do this and that, After Monaco, I also looked at some other things affecting my performances - am I coming into a race weekend not feeling energised or not feeling this or that?
Daniel Ricciardo said, as reported by racingnews365. YouTube video player

The Honey Badger reckoned that he conducted a self-therapy session after the Monaco GP to check what he was doing wrong. Ricciardo questioned himself about certain things, especially away from the track. Additionally, the Aussie mentioned that he gave too much away to people before a race which caused him to flat out during the main race.

I had some good self-therapy after Monaco, a look at the things I'm doing wrong away from the track. Am I giving too much away to people, and by the time I get to race day I'm a little bit flat, because I know it's in me?
Daniel Ricciardo added.

Daniel Ricciardo claims he tries to take as much ‘accountability’ as possible

Daniel Ricciardo is immensely famous for his bubbly and positive personality in and around the race weekends. The 34-year-old always has a big Aussie smile on his face during a race weekend. Hence, Ricciardo further added that deep down he knew how to improve performance during a race. Also, the Australian tried to take as much accountability as possible for his poor performance.

As I said, we're always going to try to fine tune the car, but deep down, I know what I can do. It's just making sure I'm in the spot to be able to do it more often. I try to take as much accountability as possible and think a little bit broader.
Daniel Ricciardo noted.

Apart from this, he revealed that he had an open chat with his crew at RB which further helped him ease up. Ricciardo recalled that he went to the crew and asked them bluntly about the problems. The Australian preferred the crew to be straight up with him which helped him be productive and continue through the week after.

So we just had a very open chat and it was great because I also wanted to give them the comfort to tell me straight. I'm nearly 35, I don't need too many more pats on the back. I'd rather people just be very direct with me. I felt like it was productive and that continued through the week after.
Daniel Ricciardo concluded.

The 2024 season has been average at best for the RB crew. The team has maintained a comfortable position in the constructors’ championship. Hence, the rest of the season will witness the team bring in more in-season upgrades to improve performance down the season.
