Deputies identify victims, suspect in Kamiah murder-suicide
KAMIAH, Idaho (CBS2) — Police in northern Idaho have identified the three people dead in a murder-suicide.
The Lewis County Sheriff's Office says the shooting occurred at a motel on the 1000 block of 3rd Street in Kamiah Monday evening. Police say 71-year-old Ronald Port is suspected of firing a gun into a parked vehicle -- killingMaden McAnear, 31, and Chip Brooks, 57.
Port then died after firing a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police say.
“We appreciate the cooperation of witnesses and others who are helping us piece together what happened. This incident is exceptionally tragic for all involved. Our prayers go out to those impacted,” said Lewis County Sheriff Jason Davis.
The investigation into Monday’s incident remains ongoing. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Idaho State Police, the Nezperce and Idaho County Coroners Offices, and Kamiah Fire-Rescue.
