He told The Seattle Times that instead, he made the decision to attempt to frighten them. “As I looked around and saw the other contestants, I just thought about how long I’ve been on the internet,” Marcel said. “If any one of these guys for any reason know or has seen anything in the 10 years I’ve been doing YouTube, I’m immediately labeled as a liar. I felt like it was in my best interest to tell people the truth about my career.”
Marcel likened the social gameplay on Netflix’s competitive series “The Circle,” which co-stars with “The Anonymous,” at 11 p.m. on August 19, to a hybrid of the computer game Among Us and the show.
In “The Anonymous,” twelve competitors use dishonesty and cunning to compete for a $100,000 grand prize. This year, the game was filmed at a modernistic circular home (the USA refuses to disclose the location; Deadline.com claims the show was filmed in Europe). In addition to the real world, players can also interact in “anonymous mode.”
Players receive directions from a computer voice known as DANI, or Digital Anonymous Networking Interface. When they go into anonymous mode, players set up personal “underground hideouts” where they converse with one another using anonymous avatars in an effort to figure out each other’s real identities. DANI puts the competitors to the test to determine how well they can match different handles with players.
Every week, a different player is sent home, chosen by the player who maintains the greatest anonymity by not being mentioned during the guessing process.
