Memphis Depay in search for a new club after leaving Atletico Madrid as a free agent
Memphis Depay’s contract with Atletico Madrid came to an end this summer, as the player left the Spanish giants as a free agent. The club and the player mutually agreed to part ways, concluding a dismal four-year tenure in Spain.
The 30-year old Dutch star, who played at both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid during his four-year stint in Spain, made 80 appearances, scoring only 27 goals. This tally was only five goals higher than his single-season performance at Lyon in 2020-21. His poor performances proved to be a hindrance in securing a contract extension with Atletico Madrid.
The former United star will now be on the hunt for a new club. Depay has been on the Inter Milan’s radar for a some time, and could join the Serie A champions alongside new signing Mehdi Taremi, from Porto.
