As per Ruud himself, he has known Purcell very well since their time together in the juniors and was happy to see that he has improved a lot as a player.

This was only their second professional match, though, and Ruud’s first win against Max Purcell. The last time they played against each other was in the second match of the 2023 Cincinnati Open and Ruud lost that match.

They had also faced each other in the qualifier for the 2018 US Open. The Norwegian won that match.

What can I say? Incredible match. I know Max very well from juniors, and he is taking his tennis to a different level. It’s good to see.

Ruud said in post match interview

The World No. 11 also had a fine performance in the first round of the tournament. He defeated Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinolas in three sets to move on to the second round.

Casper Ruud’s performance in 2023 was decent, and he will look to improve his results in the 2024 season. He has been off to a great start to the year, and it will be interesting to see whether he can pull it off.

Casper Ruud is set to face Cameron Norrie in the second round

Casper Ruud and Cameron Norrie will lock horns against each other in the third round of the Australian Open in 2024. The two players have played against each other three times in the past, and the Norwegian emerged victorious on all of those occasions.

He thus has an obvious advantage in the faceoff and remains the favorite to win the match. The last time they faced each other was back in the round of 16 of the 2022 Miami Open

Cameron Norrie, on the other hand, has had an interesting route to the third round of the 2024 Australian Open. He won his second-round match against Giulio Zeppieri in a thrilling fashion. The Brit lost the first two sets and then made a comeback to reach the third round in style. This shows that World No. 22 thrives under pressure.
