Tired of hearing from the old man Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gets WHACKED on social media f
Jerry Jones has an interesting take on the defensive end’s Sam Williams arrest. The Dallas Cowboys owner has had some unusual takes over the years, but this one takes the cake. Williams was detained on Sunday on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and carrying a concealed handgun, according to the Frisco Police. He was later released and joined practice on Tuesday. However, as per NFL personal conduct policy, he may have to serve a suspension or pay a hefty fine.
Initially, Jones did not comment on the incident. But afterward, he touched upon the sophomore DE’s past misconduct and claimed that Williams was maturing. “This sounds a little hollow, but he does and is maturing,” Jones said, as per ESPN. “Was he going 66 miles an hour? This year? So he’s 34 mph less than he was.”
Perhaps the longtime servant of the cowboys was trying to soften the mood. It’s an unusual comment nonetheless that has rubbed the fans the wrong way.
Throughout the years, Jerry Jones has built a reputation for speaking his mind. During his 34-year tenure, the 80-year-old has given some of the most memorable speeches in NFL history. Not so long ago, his cheeky remark on the Washington Commanders’ ownership change lit up social media with praise. His remarks concerning Sam Williams’ accident, in contrast to the last occasion, were not warmly received by many people.
As the comedians pointed out, the accident was not a one-time incident but rather a recurring theme for Sam Williams. The 24-year-old rookie has yet to kick a ball for the Dallas Cowboys, but he has already had run-ins with the law on a couple of occasions.
In December 2022, Plano Police booked Williams for misdemeanor reckless driving. As per the reports, he was driving almost 100 miles an hour in a 55-mph zone. Fortunately for Jones, his second-round pick survived with just a few scratches and missed a game due to the concussion protocol.
When the reporters asked whether the accident would affect the team in any way, he replied that everything was being taken care of. “It won’t impact his time on the field,” he told reporters after Sam Williams’ latest arrest. “I do have all of the details. There are some lessons to be learned there for everybody.”
The Cowboys don’t have much to worry about on that front. DeMarcus Lawrence is their starting LDE. The veteran has been with the Dallas franchise since 2014, and last season was his best by far. He played 17 games, lodged 65 tackles (43 solo, 22 assisted), and completed 6 sacks.
