Two homes destroyed in fast-moving N. Idaho wildfire; others threatened
OROFINO, Idaho (CBS2) — At least two homes have been destroyed in a fast-moving wildfire near the town of Orofino, the Idaho Department of Lands said Sunday evening.
The Whitetail Loop Fire had burned about 50 acres as of late Sunday, and is threatening other structures in the area. Orofino is east of Lewiston on the Nez Perce Indian Reservation.
The Clearwater County Sheriff's Office has issued evacuation notices in some areas near the fire, which was reported around 4:00 p.m. Sunday.
The fire is burning on narrow roads and in steep terrain. A Type 3 Incident Management Team has been called in to assist, as crews work to get more equipment to help them battle the flames. A helitack crew, multiple engines and air support are currently on scene fighting the fire.
