Mardy Fish’s controversial decision to leave America’s No.1 doubles player Rajeev Ram out of the US Davis Cup 2022 team backfired, eliciting a plethora of backlash online. For context, Italy defeated the USA in the Quarter-final round 2-1 and advanced into the semi-finals. Since then, rumors about Mardy Fish’s exit as captain of the US team are doing rounds in the media circles.

Sources telling me Mardy Fish is out as captain of Davis Cup Team. I guess you can’t have Jack Sock pick your team and have the world 1 sitting watching at home.

Jon Wertheim gave many possible names for the job.

What if the @usta — in a total rebrand; totally out of hidebound character — went waaaay off the board here? John Lucas? Dirk Nowitzki? Rajeev as player/captain? Chanda Rubin? Let it rip…otherwise, yes, James or the Bryans will be unimpeachable choices,” he wrote.
