Georges St-Pierre is arguably one of the most loved MMA fighters of all time. St-Pierre was an amazing fighter as well as a great human being outside the octagon. St-Pierre’s MMA career is filled with incredible fights and a body of work which is extremely hard to beat. However, being one of the most respected fighters GSP was not away from controversies.

GSP vs BJ Penn 2 was one of the most anticipated fights of 2009. It took place at UFC 94 and is currently infamously known as the ‘Grease-Gate’ incident. In that fight, Penn accused GSP of cheating by rubbing extra Vaseline on his body. While replying to these accusations, GSP sarcastically admitted that he cheated but not in the way fans think. According to GSP, he cheated when Penn was walking out to the octagon.

He said: “This whole thing is over. We went to the court and we win but he keep talking and you know what I’m tired I’m gonna tell you the truth. Yes, I did cheat. I did cheat everybody I can’t undo the pressure anymore, I’m falling apart. I did cheat but not in a way that people think. If you look at the fight closely in BJ Penn’s entry to the octagon, when he’s walking to the octagon you can see how I cheat.”

During Penn’s walkout, a fan in the stands kissed the fighter on his head with affection. The Canadian took that thing and hilariously mentioned that he actually hired that man to kiss Penn and which resulted in Penn losing all his strength during the fight.

“I hire a man to kiss BJ Penn on the mouth on his way to the octagon and at that precise moment BJ Penn lost all his strength and all his focus and the fight was mine. So If I cheat? Yes but not with Vaseline, by hiring a man to kiss him in the mouth,” said GSP. Certainly, GSP was just joking around and trying to make things light.

The story about the Infamous ‘Grease-Gate’ incident between Georges St-Pierre and BJ Penn at UFC 94

It was the second time Georges St-Pierre and BJ Penn were fighting each other since GSP won the first one via split decision. But unlike the first fight, the second one was not a close fight at all.

In the first round, Penn and St-Pierre were looking even and getting involved in several exchanges. But after that Penn’s performance just went down significantly and he was getting dominated for the rest of the fight.

The UFC and Nevada State Athletic Commission did their investigation as per Penn’s request. However, it didn’t change the outcome.
