Worlds fastest man Noah Lyles channels inner Goku after gold medal at Paris Olympics

Sunday marked history for American sprinter Noah Lyles as he bagged a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He overtook his rival Jamaican sprinter Kishane Thompson by .005 seconds, the closest race that the fans have ever seen.

Following his gold victory, the cameras caught Lyles channeling ‘Goku’s trademark Kamehameha pose after the men’s 100m sprint. Lyles passed Thompson in the second half of the race, registering 9.79 seconds, a personal best record.

Kishane Thompson also crossed at the same time, but Lyles ended up winning the race as his torso crossed the finish margin ahead of his rival. The finishing photo of the Olympics 100m men’s race, brought up controversy among fans, as many thought Lyles robbed the Jamaican sprinter of his gold title.

Lyles later posted on X, how anyone could achieve something special even if they have health problems. He noted,

I have Asthma, allergies, dyslexia, ADD, anxiety, and Depression. But I will tell you that what you have does not define what you can become. Why Not You!

While talking about the race, he admitted that he though Thompson has won the sprint, until his name popped up on top of the leaderboard. Noah Lyles even went to his rival saying, “I think you got that one, big dawg!”.

Noah Lyles said he had a call with his therapist after the semifinal round, and he advised the athlete to relax, and have fun out there. He admitted feeling anxiety after the semifinal round saying, “This is not going to be easy.”

He talked about how difficult it was for him to stand in the Olympic spotlight after going through depression in 2021. Yet, “I just believe in myself,” and after surpassing his own records he exclaimed, “Dang, I’m amazing.”

Noah Lyles will compete once again on Monday in the 200m race. After the 100m race win, he was seen hugging his girlfriend Junelle Bromfield, a fellow runner. He was also seen taking off his name tag and raising it to the fans.
